In the liturgical year we have entered the season of Ordinary Time. Some call this time of year between Holy Trinity Sunday (which was June 15th) and Christ the King Sunday (the last Sunday before Advent) the season of rest. While the rest of the liturgical year propels us along with feasts and celebrations, Ordinary Time allows us to be in the blessing of each ordinary day.
Some liken it to summer vacation, when as children, the days stretched before us, filled with possibility and the promise of new adventures.
This summer season finds our Giving Garden in full bloom….I do love walking through it and seeing what’s growing there. The garden also gathers together our neighbors who might not have opportunity to interact with one another otherwise.
When Bruce and I head for the deep south this summer (see information elsewhere in this newsletter), we will be visiting with family and friends we have not seen in many months and many years. I am especially excited about seeing old friends, some I haven’t seen since high school and college! What a gift this will be.
Ordinary time offers the Church the chance to move through our days together with possibilities that are wide open. As we continue to discern together the best ways to live into our mission, we know that with God all things are possible. We are dreaming, discerning, and visioning together and your Council leadership wants you to be a part of it. We are creating opportunities for us to know one another better, to share our stories, to listen to hopes and fears, and to walk together as the called people of God in this part of North Seattle.
Here’s my invitation to you….come to church, on Sunday and any other day…walk through the garden….meet the neighbors. Sit awhile at an outside table, share a cup of coffee, come to breakfast, enjoy some sweet tea, and come to the table of mercy and the baptismal waters that are reminders of God’s faithfulness to us in every season.
Serving with you,
Pastor Julie Hutson+
