PJ’s Page –
Love does seem to be in the air at LMLC! We extend our congratulations and love and cheers to Julie Moe and Darryl Rogers as well as to Vicar Laura and Kate Harris….both couples are engaged and will be married soon!
Weddings bring much joy and anticipation. We know this well at our house. At this writing we are twelve days away from our son Robert’s wedding to Haley on a lavender farm, with this mom/pastor officiating. What joy! (Also, thank goodness for water proof mascara.) So you are aware, I will be out of the office from July 30-August 11th as we welcome family and friends for this occasion.
I found a quote recently that I’m thinking of using in Robby and Haley’s wedding sermon. Mark Twain said: “To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with.” Not to put too fine a point on it, but joy shared doesn’t actually divide it, rather it multiplies it. The joy shared when two people promise to spend their lives together ripples out into the world and pulls all who know and love them into its wake.
The same thing is true of joy in community. When we share joy…the joy of the Lord, the joy of singing a favorite hymn (or a NEW hymn) together, the joy of a shared meal, the joy of a story told through the generations…well that joy multiplies.
Summer brings many gifts with it….this summer one of those gifts for me is this long anticipated wedding in our family. Another will be the trip to Holden Village many of us will make in mid August, carrying on a long tradition at Luther Memorial. (Thanks to Colleen Lingappaiah for pulling this together!) But another joy multiplied happens every Sunday, when we gather to worship. Summer travel and events sometime mean we aren’t all together in worship as often as we’d like, but even so, our hearts are connected in community. Joy abounds.
It’s my prayer that these remaining days of summer are made of memories and milestones that multiply joy among you and those you love. Elsewhere in this Messenger you’ll find a couple of opportunities to gather with community. I hope to see you there.
See you in church!
