Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
These are days of welcome! We are so delighted to welcome as our new Director of Music and Worship Arts, David Horton. David is a friend of this congregation, filling in as musician in this place as needed over the last several years. David comes to us from Faith Lutheran Church in Redmond, WA. His position here is full time; his office is located in what was once the nursery, then became storage. We anticipate that his office will remain in that area after the remodel. There is much ahead in our Music and Worship Arts life together! How might YOU be a part of that? Get to know David…spend some time over a cup of coffee and find out!
We will also welcome new members during the month of April! As of this writing there is a lovely contingent of folks who will participate. If you are reading and are interested, please come talk to me. It’s an easy process of wide and gracious welcome.
Speaking of welcome…..we will be looking at facets of hospitality as a community of faith together. Some of that will happen in Messenger articles, some will happen in communication directly from me, and some will happen within the context of our worship, and some will happen in conversations that grow naturally. As we welcome many newcomers in our midst I encourage you to offer simple words of welcome: “Welcome! It’s good to see you!”
Finally, as we anticipate the Feast of the Resurrection, I am reminded of the words of the song that Joe Newberry sang when he was with us in March: Heading for the pinnacle….singing as we rise! Joe’s song (which you can find on You Tube and other spots online) describes his family members, mother, father, and sister, who have died and what they are doing up on the mountain (or in the next life.)
Mother is singing; Father is working; Sister in preaching. These tasks, for Joe, defined the lives of his beloveds. This made me ask myself: If a verse of that song were written about me, what word would define my life? What word would define your life? And to help us as we consider that, what word would be chosen in light of the Resurrection? Because in the Resurrection we are made new. In our baptismal promises, we are new creations.
Up on the mountain, the welcome is wide. It is wide here, too!
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
